Webb observations of star near Milky Way’s supermassive black hole leads to discovery

Using James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers have discovered that "dust and water can form and survive surprisingly close to the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy," according to ESA. Webb’s observations of the evolved star IRS 3 reveal how it continues to enrich its surroundings with newly formed material despite the extreme radiation near the Sagittarius A* black hole.
