Security a priority at Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon after Las Vegas shooting

Event organizers and police are not taking security lightly at the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. Metro has increased their assigned officers for the event to 350. Police plan to have a helicopter circling above the race. Police will provide overhead surveillance along the route, some armed with long-range guns. They have also identified intersections that could be targeted in a vehicle attack. Officers will be there to keep traffic flowing, and to protect the area with barriers. Only clear, race-issued bags will be allowed through bag check. There will be security checkpoints at all entrances at the 5K and concert Saturday and at the races Sunday. Organizers suggest runners should arrive early to accommodate increased security.
