Respect in the workplace means dignifying the differences in other people. This what is meant by tolerance and acting, not just thinking about respect. All respectful workplaces are not just tolerant. Tolerance is temporary. Dignifying others however is validating the safety of one's being. So respect in the workplace begins with understanding non-dignifying behaviors or avoiding disrespect by not just tolerant but behaving in a dignified way toward others who are from from you regarding their race, gender, religion, creed, sexual identity, and sexual orientation.
