As part of its annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month programming, No Limits Radio welcomed Sherron K. Bristol, MSW, LCSW, CFSW, Counselor at A-B Tech Community College, for an important conversation about domestic violence, healthy relationships, and available support resources. For the past decade, No Limits has dedicated an October episode to raising awareness about domestic violence and supporting survivors. While October serves as a national reminder, the impact of domestic violence extends far beyond a single month. Millions of Americans experience intimate partner violence each year, and abuse can take many forms, including emotional, psychological, financial, and technology-facilitated abuse. During the discussion, Sherron explained how domestic violence affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds, with young adults and college-age students remaining particularly vulnerable. She shared warning signs of unhealthy relationships, discussed the barriers that often prevent survivors from seeking help, and highlighted the emotional, academic, and professional challenges abuse can create. A significant portion of the conversation focused on resources available to A-B Tech students. Sherron described the supportive, confidential counseling services offered by the College and emphasized the importance of creating a campus environment where students feel safe, respected, and empowered to seek assistance. She also discussed the College's collaboration with community organizations that provide additional advocacy, counseling, shelter, and support services for survivors. The conversation concluded with a focus on prevention and education. Sherron outlined the characteristics of healthy relationships, encouraged listeners to support friends and loved ones who may be experiencing abuse, and challenged common misconceptions surrounding domestic violence. Her message was clear: help is available, healing is possible, and no one should face these challenges alone. Listeners were encouraged to learn more about counseling and support services available through A-B Tech and local community partners. Through awareness, education, and compassion, we can all play a role in building safer and healthier communities.
