Scarborough: Trump "Knows He Is Going to Lose"; Supporters Are Wondering "Does This Guy Want to Win?"

Joe Scarborough criticizes Donald Trump attacking The New York Times for an article about turmoil in his campaign and his pivot in the general election. The article, titled 'Inside the Failing Mission to Tame Donald Trump's Tongue,' was published over the weekend. On Monday's edition of MSNBC's Morning Joe Scarborough said Trump is running against the press instead of his opponent in the general election Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Scarborough played a clip from Trump at a campaign rally in Fairfield, Conn. over the weekend where he said: "I'm not running against Crooked Hillary Clinton; I'm running against the crooked media... Lately, we have a newspaper that's failing badly. It's losing a lot of money. It's going to be out of business very soon. The New York Times, okay. I love it... These are the most dishonest people. The good news is, I love, you know, I put down failing at New York Times, the newspaper is going to hell. They've got a couple reporters in that newspaper who are so bad with, I mean, lack of talent. But it's going to hell."
SCARBOROUGH: There was nothing in this story that talked about chaos inside the campaign that we all haven't heard. I thought the most damming quote of the weekend was Donald Trump afterwards attacking the piece, going there are no anonymous sources. When it comes to campaign, it's just me, it's just me. Well, that's been the problem. The family members, everybody constantly trying to intervene. Constantly trying to get him to show a little bit of discipline and he just won't do it.... More and more Trump supporters are now beginning to wonder does this guy want to win... [TRUMP CLIP] That's a guy who knows he is going to lose. That's a guy who knows he is going to lose. You start talking that way and, again, I don't know that he's ever wanted to win. It's sad. It's sad and pathetic what's going on out there. If you are a Republican and would actually like to control one branch of government after this election... What is remarkable is that Donald Trump has, if he has actually fallen even below our expectations, there's a reason why he's been on his absolute worst behavior over his past month. Kicking around Gold Star mothers, talking about Second Amendment solutions to Supreme Court Justice picks. I could go on and on. This just doesn't stop. This is a guy who is in self-destruct mode.
