Students learn how to write and share a commentary as a way to voice their perspectives and engage civically. The class begins with a brainstorm of ideas to write about based on their personal experiences. Next, students hear and read commentaries as models. After some discussion about possible commentaries, the students break off to work on their writing. Teacher Teresa Chin works one on one with the a student named Heaven.
