Banish “I am too busy” from your vocabulary | Lauren Midgley

Have you ever had that situation where somebody came up to you and said, "Hey, how are you doing?" Your response was, "I'm so busy, I am so overwhelmed with all that I've got going on." What just happened when you did that with that individual? You signal to them that you really don't have it together. You're busy like everybody else and you really didn't provide them any information about what's going on in your life. They ask because they really want to know. What I'm suggesting is you may want to consider telling them a different phrase and say, "Well yeah, I am busy and so good but here's what I'm doing. I'm doing this and I'm doing X and I'm doing Y," and all these things because that's what they want to know of what's actually going on with you. What I'm asking you to do is I'm asking you to banish that phrase I'm so busy, I'm so overwhelmed from your vocabulary. Because what happens is it provides you and others a mindset of self-talk that you're overwhelmed and that you can't keep on track and keep on top of your own productivity. That's not what you want to do. Banish that from your vocabulary. What you want to say is, "I'm doing well. I'm doing this and I'm doing that" and how are you doing, what's going on in your life. Don't let them say, "Oh, I'm so busy and overwhelmed." If they say that, challenge them on it. Ask them, "Oh I know, we all are but what really is happening?" Tell me exactly, what are you doing today? What's on the next week for you? What's the big project that you're working on? Banish I'm too busy and overwhelmed from your vocabulary.
