On the 40th anniversary of the first successful landing on the surface of the Red Planet, NASA has released this retrospective video. The Viking mission consisted of 2 orbiters/landers. The first, Viking 1 landed on July 20, 1976 and Viking 2 landed on September 3, 1976.
