Yesterday (Oct. 25) we reported that a comet had been discovered named C/2017 U1. New observations later in the day have revealed the object to be “completely stellar” and its designation was changed to asteroid A/2017 U1 by the Minor Planet Center. It’s trajectory is currently thought to be hyperbolic but further observations are still needed to predict its origin. -- More about the redesignation at the Minor Planet Center website: http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K17/K17UI3.html Credit: Space.com / orbit animation: NASA/JPL-Caltech / edited by Steve Spaleta http://www.twitter.com/stevespaleta
