Maharashtra: Video of cops thrashing BJP youth leader goes viral, police clarify

Video of a group of policemen beating up a BJP youth leader has gone viral. The incident took place at Jalna Deepak Hospital in Maharashtra on April 9. In the video, police are seen beating BJP youth secretary Shivraj Nariyalwale with sticks. “I had gone to the hospital for some personal work. I then got to know that an acquaintance was admitted there. I went to see that person, however, he died in sometime. Many others had gathered to see him, soon hospital called police. As I was about to leave, I saw police surrounding someone I know. I went near & could hear them abusing our community people. I soon started making a video of it & one of them saw me doing it. Then they came to me & started beating all of us with sticks,” Nariyalwale said. Police, meanwhile, clarified & said force was used to drive the leader out of hospital premises. Police added that he & his kin had resorted to vandalising after death of a patient. The Superintendent of Police has, however, ordered an inquiry into the incident.
