A much-travelled man, be it as player or coach, Lutz Pfannenstiel is these days putting in the hours as sporting director of St. Louis City SC, an expansion franchise scheduled to start playing in Major League Soccer within the next couple of years. The 47-year-old former goalkeeper, who has also held managerial posts at TSG Hoffenheim and Fortuna Düsseldorf, is ideally placed to talk about the Bundesliga's close ties with the stateside soccer scene and – also in his ongoing role as TV pundit – naturally keeps a close eye on the progress of US talents in Germany.
