Gate-Shrine Described in Hebrew Bible Excavated in Israel

Archaeologists in Israel have now fully excavated a gate-shrine dating to the eighth century B.C. The gate-shrine is thought to be evidence that King Hezekiah tried to abolish worship there to prevent idolatry. As the Hebrew Bible states, "He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stone and cut down the Asherah poles" (II Kings 18:4).
