The Hubble Space Telescope was used to observe white dwarf star Stein 2051 as it passed in front of a distant star. The phenomena of gravitational microlensing, predicted by Albert Einstein's theory, offset the light coming from the distant star and a measurement of the white dwarf's mass was deduced.
