Between The Lines: Lecrae - "Freedom"

Lecrae stopped by HNHH HQ to analyze his own lyrics from "Freedom," which appeared on his recent project Church Clothes 3. The first section is about choices marginalized individuals make as they fight the system -- in Lecrae's case, "fighting this industry that will try to enslave you and make you a product and a pawn for what it wants to accomplish." He explains how he challenges the listener to do more while also admitting that he needs to do more himself. He aspires to be a contemporary Harriet Tubman or Abraham Lincoln and help people combat systemic oppression and become their best self. "I want to be somebody who frees people spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically," he says. "I want to bring that spiritual element back to hip hop and have us investigate, 'what are we doing with our souls?'""
