"If Hillary Clinton had won, she would have immediately fired James Comey," Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' on Wednesday. She defended the Trump administration's decision to fire FBI director James Comey the day before. Huckabee Sanders argues that a review and a recommendation had been made by the proper authorities to recommend Comey's resignation, but she also used what President Hillary Clinton would have done as a justification. "One of the biggest things that isn't being talked about is that Democrats would be dancing in the streets. If Hillary Clinton had won, she would have immediately fired James Comey. And the very people who were screaming on TV last night and I'm sure still today, that would have been cheering and celebrating Comey being dismissed, will be the very ones saying he shouldn't have been," she commented. He's just arrived at the Justice Department. Who asked him to undertake that review? SANDERS: I'm not aware that it was requested. All I know is that the director reports to him. And I would imagine that that is part of the process of him coming on board and taking over that position. IGNATIUS: But this is a crucial issue. Was this an independent effort on his part? Did he talk about it with Jeff Sessions? Did Attorney General Sessions talk about it with the White House? That's a really central issue here. What's the answer to that? SANDERS: My understanding is that this was an independent decision. But I think that's something that he'll have to answer in the coming days. (CROSSTALK) BRZEZINSKI: Sean Spicer says it was self-started. Can you help us understand what that means? I know you two work closely together. I'm sure you know the answer. SANDERS: Look, I think I just answered that... BRZEZINSKI: What does that mean? SANDERS: ... is that that -- he -- I was asked if this was something he came to on his own. That's my understanding. This is something that, as coming into this new position and being a person that would oversee the director of the FBI, that would be part of this process, to do a review and to make a recommendation based on that review. And that's exactly what he did.
